Secondary Consultations:
Family Violence Response Service

Our team of specialist family violence pratitioners are available during business hours. They can provide secondary consultations to professionals working with people experiencing family violence. Whether you're navigating a complex situation or seeking guidance on how best to support a client, we're here to help.

Our consultations draw on specialist expertise across a range of needs, including housing pathways, and specialist family violence for people with disabilities. We understand that every situation is unique. Our consultations are collaborative, strengths-based, and grounded in trauma-informed practice.

Useful information

A secondary consultation lets you get specialist family violence advice to help support Victim Survivors without involving them directly.

  • You don't need to share the Victim Survivor's identifying information to get a consultation, but it's best practice to seek consent beforehand.

  • It can help you unpack risks, identify support pathways, and guide your next steps with the Victim Survivor.

  • It's not crisis response, but if the request is urgent please let us know. In an emergency, call 000, or for family violence crisis support contact Safe Steps on 1800 015 188.

  • Specialist services can offer advice and information, but are unable to make decisions or take actions on your behalf.

GenWest recognises that the land on which we work and provide our services always was and always will be Aboriginal land. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.

We proudly acknowledge the First Nations communities across Naarm / Melbourne’s west – the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong Boonwurrung people of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge their rich diversity, cultures, histories and knowledges, and the deep contribution they make to the life of this region.

We acknowledge the ongoing impacts of colonisation, as well as the strength and resilience of First Nations people, and express solidarity with the ongoing struggle for land rights, self-determination, sovereignty, and recognition of past injustices.
